In an ever-changing world the technological breakthroughs seem to be coming fast and furiously. Today we learn that researchers in the United Kingdom have developed a solution to digital storage problems. The small 5D glass disk is capable of storing the equivalent of 10 million Blu-ray discs. Below you will see a video that explains the fabrication process of these 5D discs.

To create each data disc researchers of the University of Southhampton used a process called femtosecond laser writing, this creates small discs of glass use and ultrafast lasers that generate short but yet intense pulses of light. The pulses are capable of generating data in three layers of a nanostructure dots separated by 5 micrometers.

The new storage medium has been dubbed the "Superman memory Crystal" in honor of the crystals found in Superman's Fortress of solitude were temperatures were supposedly reaching far below subzero. This new storage medium is also capable of withstanding temperatures as low as 1000°C or 1832°F.
